The following add-ons are useful for narrow aisle forklifts:
Side shift: The side shift option allows the lateral movement of the load without having to move the truck. This allows loads to be positioned with a lot more precision.
Tilt mast: The tilt mast option allows the forks to shift forwards and backwards. This is great in cases where loads aren't completely level. In order to gain more stability while moving a truck that is loaded, the mast could be tilted back.
Extendable forks: Extendable forks help the reach of a forklift to allow for the stacking of pallets one in front of the other. This is called double deep loading.
Operator platforms: Some NA lift trucks have operator platforms which could raise and lower the operator while simultaneously raising and lowering the forklifts forks. This offers optimum visibility and control while dealing with loads at heights of 6 m to 9 m.
Lift Truck on a Ramp
Operators need to be properly trained and must be tested and certified. It is very important for anyone operating a forklift to be very educated about safety rules and issues. Drivers must know how to make adjustments in situations where the weight of the load alters the center of gravity or on uneven surfaces. Safety measures include the safe use of a lift truck on a ramp, which is always occurring because the driver will normally have to drive up and down ramps in order to unload and load containers.
Suggestions for Operating a Forklift on a Ramp
1 Drive at slow speeds when approaching a ramp and when driving down and up the ramp. The risk of accidents is increased when driving fast since this can upset the machine's center of gravity.
2 Drive the forklift in reverse when moving up an incline on a ramp while not carrying a load.
3 Drive forward while moving down an incline on the ramp with no load.
4 Tilt the forks slightly back to shift the center of the load to the machine's front, when moving down or up a ramp while carrying a load.
5 Drive forward up a ramp while carrying a load in order to make the load more steady.
